The global Covid-19 pandemic has evolved the way organisations conduct day-to-day business; and new ways of working that empower people to optimise their performance are being explored on a global scale. Many spend a large proportion of their lives at work and it’s important that work and home life can operate in harmony with each other.

There are many aspects to consider when creating and incorporating new flexible working policies, and there’s no ‘one size fits all’ approach. New ways of working have led to many studies and experiments, with quite a few interesting findings including the fact that remote working may be here to stay for the long-term.

There are also downsides to remote working, which include staff tending to work increased hours – negatively affecting productivity, work-life balance and mental health. To avoid overworking, examples should be set by leadership teams, and special attention needs to be given to individuals and their personal needs.
