Our ESG strategy is a key focus.
Increasingly people are looking to businesses to lead the way on environmental, social and economic sustainability. As a purpose-led organisation, our Global Impact Report demonstrates how we can support your equity, diversity and inclusion (ED&I), sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR) journey. Through the power of work, we change lives, we change businesses, and we change futures.
Environment
We are committed to making environmental improvements to our business to drive a more sustainable future and to improve the social, economic and environmental well-being of our communities.
We are working with Planet Mark to make sure we progress our sustainability journey. They will help us to measure and reduce our carbon footprint, secure Planet Mark Business Certification and deliver our Net Zero journey.
Net Zero journey
Impellam is committed to measuring our carbon footprint year-on-year to make the necessary reductions to reach net zero by 2050.
You can read our Carbon Reduction Plan & PPN 06/21 Statement.
Renewable energy
Impellam completed its first full financial year in 2022 of purchasing 100% renewable electricity generated only through wind, solar and hydro for all UK operations.
Jobs for Ukraine
As the UK’s largest STEM Group, after the outbreak of war in Ukraine, when refugees started to arrive we quickly created a tech-enabled solution to help those settling in the UK to find work. We mobilised a cross-brand team to come together and to help refugees find work – with any profit from placements being donated to the International Red Cross.
We have partnered with clients such as Veolia, John Lewis and Burberry who have made placements through our initiative.
Group Donation Matching
When a big global emergency happens, we come together as a Group in our response. We have matched donations for appeals for Ukraine, the Turkey and Syrian earthquake and to help the people involved in conflict in Israel and Occupied Palestinian Territories.
Working with ex-offenders
We partner with prisons to help people reintegrate into society. Our work focuses on helping prisoners as they approach the end of their sentences prepare to find, secure and keep rewarding employment.
We’ve partnered with and support Veolia’s ‘Through the Gate’ programme since 2018, helping the services and utilities management company to recruit 10% of new hires from marginalised backgrounds, including ex-offenders and the long-term unemployed.
We have also signed up to the Ban the Box campaign to give candidates with criminal records a fair chance by removing the need to disclose their convictions at the application stage.
STEM Careers in Schools and Early Careers
We bring STEM - (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) subjects alive for children by providing insight into real-life applications of skills and creating opportunities for young people to explore potential careers.
We do this as part of STEM Learning’s Ambassador Programme in the UK, which aims to build links between education and industry by bringing role models into schools to speak to pupils. Over 30 of our colleagues from Carbon60, Lorien and SRG are registered with the scheme.
Governance
We are committed to protecting all our stakeholders and to being a trusted partner.
We do this through continually improving our practices and policies, including; modern slavery, anti-bribery, health & safety and energy and carbon reporting.
STEM Council for Good
The STEM Council for Good was launched in North America by our STEM teams who organised events which ranged from virtual and in-person speaking engagements, robust social media outreach, mentoring and other career events. Through these events and organisations like HigherMe, and many other ED&I initiatives, the STEM Council for Good has helped reach 2,500+ people and dozens of supporting businesses and employers to date.
