International Women's Day - Celebrating our Female-led Company

Impellam Group is one of only a few companies with a female CEO. Women possess certain traits that make them great leaders in the workplace.

"Behind every successful woman is a tribe of other successful women who have her back"

                                                                                                                                    – Anonymous

We at Impellam Group are proud to be one of only a few companies with a female CEO. In addition, 26% and 57% of our Senior Leadership Team and Board members are female respectively.

Women tend to be great leaders as they generally value work-life balance, are empathetic, they are great listeners, they are good at multi-tasking, and most importantly – they tend to make their job look effortless.

Julia Robertson was appointed Group Chief Executive Officer of the Impellam Group in April 2013 after joining Tate in 1996, which was later acquired to form part of what is now the Impellam Group. Under Julia’s leadership, Impellam has grown to become the 2nd largest staffing business in the UK and the 6th largest managed services provider worldwide.

Julia leads by example, and has had an impressive career in recruitment. She’s always challenging the ways that the Group does recruitment, and that when done well, we are able to change our candidates’ lives for the better, also helping our clients’ businesses to thrive. To prove her quality leadership skills, Julia received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Institute of Recruitment Professionals – go Julia!

In addition to Julia, North America CEO, Claire Marsh, CEO of STEM UK, Kelly Morton and Group General Counsel, Rebecca Watson are all more examples of exceptional female leaders at Impellam Group. By having these female leaders lead us, it inspires our other female employees, clients and candidates to know that if they work hard enough, they too can lead a team, a division or even an entire company.

International Women’s Day is celebrated every year on the 8th March to promote world gender equality, however we believe that it should be celebrated every day. The theme for 2019 is #BalanceforBetter, which promotes the idea that a more gender-balanced world is a better world.

Did you know - according to a Skills, Competencies and Gender research study by the Institute for Employment Studies, men are likely to undervalue social skills and interaction with clients and customers, which women stress as important. This relates to a growing trend that we have seen – lower-skilled jobs are decreasing in significance and numbers; where roles that require relationship building skills are increasing. This is a great example of why a gender-balanced world that offers women equal opportunities benefits the workplace.

We therefore encourage all businesses to continue to invest in their female employees and candidates, as women possess certain traits that will ultimately grow your business.

On the other side of the spectrum, we continuously encourage and support our female Impellam employees and candidates to have confidence in themselves to demonstrate what they can deliver, as we provide equal platforms and opportunities for both men and women at Impellam.
